Philadelphia Phillies
Odds: +200

Are you kidding me? How can you lose with a staff of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Roy Oswalt? Even at +200 they may have good betting value. Their staff may be even better when closer Brad Lidge comes back. Their offense has been playing well and they also will also likely be better when Chase Utley returns. The Phillies are in first place in the NL East and even though they are stacked they will have to deal with the Braves and hot Marlins.

Boston Red Sox
Odds: +450

The Red Sox still have good betting odds, but should they? They have been playing well after a horrid start, but they are still in the basement in the killer AL East. Carl Crawford has struggled so far this season and the Boston offense only ranks 20th in runs scored. Last season they did not make the playoff because of their pitching, which is struggling again this season with the league’s 23rd ranked team ERA.

New York Yankees
Odds: +500

The Yankees have started out the season well, especially their offense, and they lead the tough AL East. Their staff only ranks 16th in the league in team ERA and while CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett have pitched well their 3-5 starters are an issue.

Texas Rangers
Odds: +800

The Rangers lost Cliff Lee in the off-season and last season’s MVP Josh Hamilton has been on the DL for a few weeks, but Texas keeps on winning. Still, with the lack of a true Ace I don’t think they have good betting value at +800. Their offense ranks 2nd in the Majors in runs scored and Adrian Beltre has gotten off to a great start and Michael Young is hitting over .350. The Rangers’ pitching has been decent, but not great, and they currently lead the AL West.

San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies
Odds: +1000

The defending champion Giants will need their pitching to carry them to the Fall Classic again, as their offense lacks pop and they only rank 23rd in runs scored. They are around .500 and while they have the staff they have not gotten off to a great start like last season, as they rank 10th in team ERA. The Rockies have a several game lead in the NL West and their pitching staff has been solid and their offense is scoring a lot of runs. Troy Tulowitzki has gotten off to a great start and Todd Helton has shown he still has some pop in his bat.
