Super Bowl 45 Odds
Sept/9/20102010 Preseason Odds
The Colts, Saints, and Packers are all at +700 and are the odds on betting favorites to win the Super Bowl this season. The Colts have a guy named Manning leading a great passing offense, but the Colts will be even tougher to beat if they can run the ball, which they could not do last season. Their defense was mediocre last season, but their run defense was really bad, which is why they used the draft to pick up run-stoppers.
The Saints seem to be a good wagering option at +700, but we all know how hard it is to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Drew Brees and a slew of solid RB's lead a great offense, but the defense is, once again, a concern, especially since leader Darren Sharper will start the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Betting on the Packers may be a good pick since they had the top-ranked defense last season and QB Aaron Rodgers is now a top-flight QB. Green Bay has the tools, but they play a killer schedule including facing the Vikings twice.
Many are wagering on the Ravens (+800) since QB Joe Flacco finally has some WR options with the off-season additions of Anquan Boldin, Donté Stallworth, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Ray Rice is a horse in the backfield and the defense is still solid led by Ray Lewis and anything less than a Super Bowl appearance may be seen as disappointment in Baltimore.
The Cowboys (+800) finally got a playoff win from QB Tony Romo and while they are stacked on both sides of the ball they play in the toughest division in the league in the NFC West. Oh yeah, and no team has ever played in the Super Bowl in their home city and the big game is in the Big D this season.
The Jets may be a good wagering value at +1000 since their D will be awesome again and they finally got CB Darrelle Revis back in the fold. Mark Sanchez had a decent rookie campaign and New York added many solid free agents including LaDainian Tomlinson, Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie, and Jason Taylor.
Betting on the Vikings to win the Super Bowl is betting on Brett Favre to stay healthy for the whole season. Favre is back under center, but 2009 leading WR Sidney Rice out for half the season and Percy Harvin has been slowed by migraines. The Vikes are solid, but they have issues and their pass defense is still a concern.
The Chargers may be the best team in the past decade that has not made the Super Bowl. Wagering on them this season may be a good bet, but rookie RB Ryan Matthews must have a good season and the defense has to step up, especially in the post-season. Still, the Chargers still have one of the best passing offenses in the league with QB Phillip Rivers under center.
For the first time in a while the Patriots do not have great betting odds to go all the way. Tom Brady is 2-years removed from his major knee injury and WR Wes Welker is coming off a major knee injury of his own. Randy Moss is not happy heading in the season and there are many new faces in New England, as they have a lot of talented, yet unproven, players. However, the Patriots are still a great team and betting against Brady is never a good idea.
